It’s Good To Be King

It’s Good To Be King

If it applies to you, that title holds a lot of truth but, in keeping with our theme of Tom Petty hits, let’s explore this slightly sarcastic number.

“It’s good to be king and have your own way

Get a feeling of peace at the end of the day”

The reality is, it’s good to be king… right up until it isn’t.

“You’re out there with winners, it’s good to be king”

Most of us have had our worlds turned sideways, over the last few weeks. Stay at home orders, supply shortages, and job insecurity, have affected different people in different ways. The very real health risks, however, have been an equalizer. Despite what we initially thought the likely demographics of mortality to be, the virus sweeping our nation has claimed young and old, weak and strong, rich and poor.

This illness didn’t stop and ask which among us were the Kings, so it could pass on by.

“It’s good to be king, whatever it pays”

The real estate industry is reeling from the impact of the changes. There has been back and forth over the definition of “essential.” People still need to buy and sell homes. Some folks were already in the middle of a transaction, when orders came through to halt all business, and some folks had plans that hinged upon others’ ability to move forward. We have had to adapt very quickly to more unconventional, but tech-forward methods of getting the job done. The job should still be getting done, though.

Some who may have been considered Kings of real estate are now wearing tarnished crowns, due to their failure to adapt, or unwillingness to work with technology.

“It’s good to be king of your own little town”

Buyers and Sellers are, of course, significantly impacted by the current circumstances. Many do not want to take the risk of exposure, either by touring properties or allowing others in to tour. Some sellers have decided to delay listing, in an already low inventory situation. Some have decided to stick it out, but whether anyone requests a tour is now in question, whereas it would previously have been a certainty. Some buyers are adjusting to the new normal of virtual tours and are faced with making major life decisions over wifi.

Those who felt they were the King of the Castle -whether due to a great home to sell or a solid financial position to buy- may have just discovered that the kingdom is empty.

“It’s good to be king, if just for a while”

Things are definitely different, but they can still move forward and this isn’t forever. For those of us used to operating in the virtual space, business hasn’t changed too dramatically. Having contingency plans in place allows us to pivot, when necessary. If you’re feeling uncertain about the next best step, feel free to reach out. (Maybe it’s about real estate, or maybe you just need to hear another adult’s voice, after weeks at home with allll the children. We’ll answer the phone either way. No judgement.) 🙂

Everyone’s situation is unique and there is no one, blanket answer. We’d love to answer questions and reassure you.

Please let us know how we can help.

…and wash your hands.
