When travelling, one of my family’s favorite things to do is find a great local place to grab breakfast. We consider ourselves budding biscuit aficionados and, well, gravy is life. When we discovered that Maple Street Biscuit Company had opened in Knoxville, we all paused to count our blessings!
The food is amazing, which is important for a restaurant, and provided in exceedingly generous quantity. I don’t mind telling you that Maple Street in Knoxville, TN, served the best sausage gravy I have ever had, outside my own kitchen period. My sheltered palate had never had spicy syrup and I’m here to say, I dipped everything but my napkin in it before I was done.
What sets this place apart is more than the food. It’s the people. The culture. The genuine kindness. They want to get to know you and when they welcome you in and thank you for coming, they mean it.
In the same breath as they lay expectations and offer to help us have the best possible experience, they also subtly and gently remind us to use our manners. Noticing this innocuous sign is when I realized that their business model must be fundamentally different. I like it.
So, if you’re looking for a place to grab breakfast (or any other opportunity to eat presents itself) and you want to be treated like someone’s favorite cousin, head on over to Maple Street.
Try the waffles. Or absolutely anything else on the menu. You can’t go wrong.
