Wildflowers
Wildflowers, as a song, isn’t the rockin’ good time we best know Tom Petty for, but that difference is what makes it special. A simple melody that almost reaches a Dylan-esque feel, as it works its way through a very “Peace & Love” vibe. Truly, this song was made for February, a month that is such a dramatic blend of extremes; it’s the dreariest time of year, in desperate need of some warm, cheerful thoughts, and it’s the month of love and romance, thanks to Valentine’s Day. What could be more romantic than a bunch of flowers? Wildflowers, in this particular instance, picked just for you. Imagine, that bright field…

Prayer on a Plate
It’s finally here. The last blog post of 2019. In keeping with the Food-Holiday Theme, I’ve got the arguable best saved for last. Ladies and Gentlemen: It is my distinct pleasure to announce to the unaware, that Saturday, the 14th of December, is National Biscuits and Gravy Day! More words seem really unnecessary, in the wake of such an announcement, and yet, I’ll continue. Biscuits and Gravy isn’t just a food, I would argue it’s a culture. A feeling. It’s an old reliable meal; the answer when you’ve gotta feed a crowd, quick! It’s what you can pull together out of the couple things left in the pantry and it’s…

Stone Soup
Welcome to 2019! This year’s theme is: STONE SOUP We are off and running, in the new year, but I wanted to take a moment to pause and check in with you. This is the time of year when we’re trying to get our collective acts together in order to accomplish those Big, Audacious Goals we’ve been quietly planning. It can be daunting, for sure. Have you summoned the nerve to say your goal out loud, yet? Remember, if it doesn’t scare you, it probably isn’t big enough! When I first started planning goals for 2019, I was afraid mine were too small. I quickly realized that…

A Step Forward for Safety
Realtor Safety is at the top of my priority list. It can’t not be. Those in the industry are -hopefully- well aware and those on the outside are, sadly, beginning to learn. As excited as the general public seems to be about HGTV, I don’t recall hearing the Property Brothers talk about the buddy system or Joanna Gaines reaching for the next piece of shiplap with a can of pepper spray swinging from her belt loop. A big part of this job, as a Realtor, involves agreeing to go with people I barely know, into places where we are alone and no one will think anything of it. I…

How to Fall
Being a kid and growing up is such a cool part of life. -Devon Werkheiser Despite my valiant efforts to convince myself otherwise, Summer is gone and Fall has arrived. Even though it’s not my favorite, there is something really amazing about the changing of seasons. It’s going to happen, regardless of how much I’d rather it didn’t, so I might as well embrace it. Pumpkin Spice Everything!! Just kidding, that’s gross. But Bath & Body Works makes a candle called “Sweater Weather” and it is absolute Autumn perfection. It’s nice to be able to open the windows on the sunny days and cozy up with a blanket and a…

Hangin’ on to Summer
By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer’s best of weather And Autumn’s best of cheer. -Helen Hunt Jackson I’m still hanging on to summer; not quite ready to give it up, just yet. September is definitely one of those odd, transitional months. The temperatures could swing from the middle of July to the beginning of November. The kids are back in school and libraries, restaurants and playgrounds are oddly quiet, after the chaos of summer vacation. Everyone’s focus has turned to checking off boxes on the school supply list and trying to adapt to an earlier bedtime, even while the argument could be made…

What Then is Freedom?
What then is freedom? The power to live as one wishes. -Cicero It’s July. This month is, like, peak summer and I am savoring every minute of it. It’s hot, there are fireworks, the pool water is finally warm enough to jump in, gardens are beginning to produce awesome tastiness and vacations are happening or creeping closer! Also? ‘Merica. This is the month where we celebrate our nation’s independence, so, let’s talk about freedom and living as you wish… Where and how do you live? Do you own, rent, couch surf? Are you a rolling stone with no designated landing point on which to grow moss? There are no wrong…

It’s Spring! Now What?
Flowers and Bunnies and Sunshine, Oh My! We’ve been waiting for this since October: It’s Spring. The weather is improving and we’re already adding eggshells and coffee grounds to our derelict compost bins, whilst planning out our organic, raised-bed, backyard kale gardens, made from reclaimed barn wood and spruced up with chalk paint that was sourced from sustainable chalk fields in well-paying, sub-industrial countries. This year, we’ll master the pepper jelly recipe that looked so simple in the magazine we thumbed through while waiting for 37 minutes for a kid with pink eye to be triaged at the urgent care. (Psht, urgent, my two-toned duck boot bottoms.) We’ll pop that…
